Meet the Maker

Rachel Jean Harper is a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, Herbalist, and master Formulator with over 30 years of hands”‘on experience in botanical wellness. Raised in a French Canadian home, she grew up watching her mother prepare traditional herbal remedies in the kitchen, sparking a lifelong reverence for plants and whole foods as they exist in nature. That early apprenticeship at her mother’s side became the foundation for Rachel’s life work: creating truly therapeutic herbal nutrition that honors both tradition and modern functional nutrition.

“I have been a longtime fan of spirulina green drinks and have tried most of those on the market. Without a doubt, Rachel Jean’s Ultimate Green Drink is the best. She has blended all the right ingredients to make it not only one of the most nutrient”‘rich green drinks available, but also one of the most pleasant tasting. I’ve been drinking it almost daily for decades and credit these morning green drinks with helping me keep up with my super”‘active lifestyle.”

Sage Mountain Lineage

Every master has a mentor. Rachel’s path led her to Sage

Mountain, where she trained under Rosemary Gladstar

the creator of Traditional Medicinals Teas – completing

rigorous apprenticeships, teacher training, and internship.

This lineage is woven into every formulation she creates.

Founding a Legacy of Care

Some people study herbalism. Rachel lived it – in the heart of a community clinic built on compassion, integrity, and plant”‘based wisdom.

While interning at Sage Mountain, Rachel Jean played a pivotal role in a project that continues to serve the community decades later. Under the direct guidance of Rosemary Gladstar, Rachel helped establish the Free People’s Clinic–a sanctuary designed to provide the community with direct access to herbal wisdom and personalized wellness intakes.

In this collaborative clinical environment, a dedicated group of herbal practitioners worked to redefine community health. Built on a foundation of deep intakes, peer-reviewed wellness strategies, and a passion for plant-based vitality, the clinic became a cornerstone of botanical education.

This vision for accessible, high-integrity care eventually grew into the Vermont Center for Integrative Herbalism (VCIH). Today, the Free People’s Clinic remains a vital part of VCIH, continuing to operate as a testament to the time-tested integrity and clinical rigor that Rachel eventually poured into every bottle of Ultimate Green Drink.

This is the heart behind her brand – wellness that is accessible, ethical, and rooted in service

Tribal Honor & Cultural Stewardship

Rachel’s work extends far beyond classrooms and clinics – into tribal communities, ancestral teachings, and cultural preservation.

Rachel went on to teach Rosemary Gladston’s the Science of Art and Herbalism to Tribal Communities, and groups seeking certification through Rosemary Gladstar Course. She also earned certification from Dr. Tieraona Low Dog, M.D., expanding her expertise in herbalism.

Rachel was appointed (blanketed) Chief of the Cedar Clan by Chief Roy Wilson of the Cowlitz and Medicine Wheel Tribe for her contributions to herbal education and wellness.

This honor reflects the depth of trust placed in her by elders, teachers, and indigenous leaders.

Functional Nutritional Therapy & Innovation

From her Functional Nutritional Therapy practice Washington, Rachel worked one”‘on”‘one with clients using a specialized assessment method known as Neuro-lingual testing (NLT). By observing the body’s subtle biofeedback through the tongue–brain connection, she was able to identify specific nutrient and botanical needs with remarkable precision. Rachel combined this insight with targeted botanical and nutritional formulations to help clients move from depletion and imbalance to vibrant, sustainable health. She is also the author of “Introduction to Traditional Botanical Medicines” for the Nutritional Therapy Association, bridging herbal wisdom with functional nutrition education.

Indigenous Wisdom & Ecological Stewardship

Rachel’s work is rooted in a profound commitment to indigenous wisdom and ecological preservation. Alongside mentors Rosemary Gladstar and ethnopharmacologist Dr. Rocio Alarcon, Rachel traveled the San Miguel River by dug out canoe into the heart of the Amazonian Rainforest.

As part of the first group of outsiders to reach the Chachi people, Rachel and Rosemary pioneered sustainable tourism to protect Chachi culture and the rainforest from logging. While working with the tribe, Rachel studied the art of “forest gardening,” learning to cultivate ancient botanical plants native to that region within their precise natural micro-environments.

Bridging the Americas

Her journey continued high into the Andes Mountains of

Quito, Ecuador, where she studied the “Culture of Earth

Elements” under indigenous tribes and Shamans. In a

symbolic fulfillment of the “Eagle and Condor” legend,

Rachel helped bring Shaman Don Alberto Taxo to the United

States, advocating for the protection of tribal lands against

clear-cutting and mono-cropping.

This global lineage infuses her practice with a rare and

profound botanical intelligence.

Washington Mountain Food Forest

Rachel’s journey eventually led her and her husband, Ken, to Washington State, where they built an off-grid homestead in the Olympic Mountains, backed by 240 acres of old-growth forest. Using timber milled from their own land, and with their own hands, they built a cedar cabin and a traditional cedar sweat lodge. With mountains at their back and one of Washington’s most pristine bays at their feet, they lived immersed in forest and sea.

Living directly from the land, Rachel harvested wild mushrooms and medicinal herbs while cultivating herbal medicines and nourishing foods within the forest itself. Together, she and Ken planted and cultivated hundreds of herbs, fruit trees, vegetables, and medicinal plants of all kinds. The land was abundant–orchards of peaches, pears, apples, cherries, plums, kiwis, and grapes grew alongside medicinal and aromatic plants such as vitex, popcorn berry, uva ursi, comfrey, rosemary, southernwood, mugwort, motherwort, fennel, lemon balm, mints, violets, roses, elecampane, eucalyptus, and more.

The land was a medicinal sanctuary, from herbs grown and gathered in her own gardens, Rachel formulated traditional remedies–tinctures, teas, salves, poultices, fomentations, and pastes–practicing the full art of the herbal apothecary.
